iMoversUSA is a locally owned business, worked right here in Silver Spring, with one crew and a written price in place of the meter. The folks you speak with are the same ones who pull up at your door on moving day.
- Written flat rate
- No hidden fees
- Licensed & insured
Built at home, run by the owner
Daniel Mekonnen got iMoversUSA rolling with a single truck, a pile of moving blankets, and one straightforward rule: put a real number on paper and honor it, gridlock or not. He started the company in Silver Spring after seeing too many neighbors billed by the hour and ambushed by a total nobody warned them about. So he turned it around: a trained crew arriving on our own trucks, padding every piece, and landing on the exact number you signed, not a cent above.
To this day there is no phone bank and no middleman taking a cut, only the same crew carrying out a Capitol Hill rowhouse one morning and a Bethesda high-rise that afternoon, Daniel on the dolly right beside them.
One truck, then the whole metro
This did not grow on advertising. It grew because the households we moved kept phoning us again.
- Started with one truckDaniel began with a single box truck and one commitment: a real price on paper, honored to the dollar.
- Neighbors talkedPeople rebooked and pointed their neighbors to us, and referrals filled the calendar faster than any ad would have.
- Across the riverThe phone kept ringing from the District, Arlington, and Alexandria, so we stretched our reach across the whole DMV.
- Climate storage arrivedA cool, climate-controlled room followed, so a stretch between homes stayed simple even in the thick of a DC August.
- Still run by DanielFrom downtown Silver Spring out to Potomac and over to Old Town, Daniel is still on the trucks and still picks up the phone.
One written price versus the hourly meter
Most crews in the area charge by the hour, then let the meter build your total. Below is a single move, ours priced our way against how it usually gets billed.
| On move day | iMoversUSA | A typical hourly mover |
|---|---|---|
| What it costs | A single written figure, set before the day | An hourly rate riding a clock with no off switch |
| Who arrives | Our own vetted, trained DMV movers | Whichever crew got dispatched that day |
| The summer humidity | Early slots and fast loading out of the sun | More or less left to luck |
| City parking permits | A reserved spot or no-park permit set up ahead | Usually left for you to sort |
| High-rise COIs | Filed, with the freight elevator booked | Sometimes a surprise charge |
| The last bill | The very figure you signed for, to the dollar | Wherever the clock decides to land |
On every job, no exceptions
- A written figure you approve before a single thing is lifted
- Our own crew drawing a paycheck, never a broker or day-labor
- Furniture pads, floor runners, and shrink wrap over the load
- A set arrival window, with a heads-up call if it moves
- Fully licensed and insured as a Maryland mover, every job
- Pianos, safes, and oversized items moved only by our own crew
- Building insurance certificates filed and elevators booked in advance
- A reserved spot or no-park permit set up for tight city blocks
“The number you sign for is what you owe, and nothing else. That is how it has run since truck one, and it is not changing.”
Daniel Mekonnen, ownerOur trucks. Our movers. No subcontractors.
We never auction your move to a broker, hand it to day-labor, or leave it with someone you have not met. The people carrying your couch draw a paycheck from Daniel, and every truck out front belongs to us, lettered with our name, stocked, and maintained at our own Silver Spring shop.
- On the books hereVetted, background-checked movers working DMV homes and offices year-round.
- One team from startThe same movers load, haul, unload, and place, so nothing slips through a hand-off.
- Careful by defaultFurniture under blankets, runners across your floors, and doorways padded before anything is carried.
City parking, the Beltway, and high-rise buildings, all handled
A move here has its own headaches: narrow rowhouse streets that need a parking permit, I-495 and I-270 backed up at rush hour, and Silver Spring, Bethesda, and Rockville condo towers with strict move rules. We plan for each one and still hit your window.
Parking & permits sorted
Tight downtown blocks and rowhouse streets, with the parking or a temporary no-park permit arranged ahead.
Beltway-timed windows
We schedule around I-495 and I-270 so a traffic jam never eats up your moving day.
High-rise ready
Silver Spring, Bethesda, and Rockville towers, with the COI filed and the freight elevator reserved.
